A Moorcroft Ginger Jar in the Bermuda Lily pattern.
In excellent overall condition.
The height (measured to the top of the lid) is 118mm and the diameter (measured across the widest section of the body) is 91mm.
Regarding the age of this ginger jar it can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
As a there is no year cypher on the ginger jar the latest possible date of manufacture would be c1989 however the style and positioning of the large impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND marks in upper case on the base suggest a date range c1949 to 1986.
This date range can be narrowed down further as the Bermuda Lily design was drawn by Walter Moorcroft in 1971 and introduced with green and ivory grounds in 1973 and 1975.
From the information above it would be reasonable to assess the age of the ginger jar as mid 1970's to mid 1980's and clearly a genuine vintage item.
The Bermuda Lily design and the size of the ginger jar are seen less often than some others and the relative rarity should mean the piece fitting in well with many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
This ginger jar is available online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view other items of Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern examples, plus a selection of collectibles and items of silverware.
